Q: So how long have you been cosplaying?
Haku: Since May 2007 at Fanime Con. So I just passed my 6 year marker!
Q: Now what made you want to start cosplaying?
Haku: I went to Fanime Con through my High School Anime Club in 2006. I had no idea that people cosplayed! They dressed up! So I was determined to do it next year at Fanime too!
Q: What do you enjoy most about cosplaying?
Haku: Being someone else; honoring a character or being a character you absolutely love, and in a secret sense—wish you could really be sometimes. It’s a good release and adventure, really.
Q: In your opinion what are the Pros and Cons about cosplaying?
Haku: The obvious PROS are that you make friends, find others with common interests, and insights to new things. You get to be someone else and walk around as an art form.
CONS: it seems to be a never-ending, physiological competition and popularity contest between so many others. People are cruel and negative when we should be encouraging and giving advice or constructive criticism.
Q: If skills, and money weren’t an issue what would be your dream character to cosplay as?
Haku: Maester Seymour from “Final Fantasy X”.
Q: Do you have any tips for people who want to start cosplaying?
Haku: Make sure you absolutely love the character you are cosplaying; it makes it easier to put in the time, effort, and money into it cause you love the character you’re creating, and that makes it almost second nature to get all the little details just right! Plus, you’ll be happier being in it!
Q: Aside from cosplaying what other hobbies do you enjoy?
Haku: Singing, Writing, Learning about other cultures, hanging with friends, reading, going on adventures!
Q: What character(s) can we look forward to seeing you cosplay as in the future?
Haku: Robin the Boy Wonder [Dick Greyson], Caesar Zapelli [Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure], Claude Faustus [Kuroshitsuji II] are all I have for sure planned for the rest of this year—I have two characters I’m deciding between for the final spot this year—either Yuri Petrov [Tiger&Bunny] or China Girl [Oz, the Great and Powerful].
Q: If any fans wanted to see your costumes what future conventions will fans be able to see you at?
Haku: Fanime, AOD, Sac-Anime, Japan Expo are the ones I always attend and I hope to continue to go to Sakura Con after going my first time this year!
Thank you for being part of this interview, and are there any last words that you would like to say the to the readers?
Haku: If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you going to love anyone else? Can I get an AMEN! – AMEN! XD [In the beautiful words of RuPaul.] Just remember Love yourself, love what you do, love your blessings, and your beauty will radiate for all to see—remember – people who try to bring you down are just unsatisfied with themselves and cannot stand how fabulous you are!
